Our Rustic Vintage RV has been a labour of love. Recently renovated with many recycled materials, and adorned with touches of arts and crafts, it is also built sturdy and strong (with a hint of a maritime theme, in keeping with the nearby interesting ports of Pt. Dover, Pt. Rowan, Pt. Burwell) by an experienced sailor. The comfy foam RV sized single bed sits in it's own loft nook above the cab, and the 2nd sleeping position is on the sofa (best for a taller person 6'+). The loft nook sleeping position above the cab is HIGHLY recommended for the smaller person and one who is most agile :-) due to the step up into this sleeping space. If one person is less agile and/or taller, you'll find the sofa the best option for sleeping. Thanks!
Basic RV-sized appliances (small size refrigerator, toaster/convection oven, electric kettle and coffee maker, electric space heater/roof AC in RV cabin), it is very comfortable, yet on a smaller, tiny house scale. The RV kitchenette is fully stocked sundries, tea/coffee making essentials, eating utensils etc. We even provide basic spices and condiments. You may enjoy grilling on the gas BBQ outside and picnic at your waterview picnic table exclusively at your disposal overlooking the beautiful waters of Lake Erie and the Long Point UNESCO World Biosphere reserve.
Try out the concept of "compact living" in this cozy space with everything you need, and an abundance of nature just outside your door to give you the feel of openness and freedom. We have a selection of interesting books for you to peruse, yet there is no TV at this time. You're on holidays, so why waste time in front of a TV or computer versus enjoying our beautiful natural surroundings, hiking trails at Backus Mill and St. Williams Forestry station, two Provincial Parks, etc.!! Take a daily walk around the property for great views of the lake and nature, gaze out from your waterside haven and day dream or get out on the water weather-permitting. Enjoy your al fresco meals, and all outdoor activities, yet be sure to use your sunscreen, insect repellent and life vests for safety. Life vests are provided for the kayak use and MUST be used.
Your hosts live in a house on the same property and may be seen tending to the nearby marina, cottages, flower gardens, and landscaping. We are available to help in any way you may need, and provide information on the area and all the great recreational opportunities in our town, nearby hamlets and ports, or on Lake Erie itself.
We have plenty of secure off street parking. Washroom with Shower is located in another building right next door on the same premises. It's a less than a minute short walk from the RV to the Lodge building.
We live an a rural, friendly neighbourhood that is very safe and accommodating. While the gypsy-type Rustic Vintage RV caravan has many comforts of home, it is similar to primitive camping and so water use is limited to the 5 gallon water container provided for hand-washing and limited dishwashing, which can be replenished as needed. One case of bottled drinking water is provided as a starter kit for guests. Should you require more, there is a great little convenience store 5 minutes away by car. There is no running water within the RV itself and the tiny onboard RV toilet is NOT used. Guests use the toilet and shower facilities of the marina and lodge building during their stay. Since there are limited dish-washing facilities in the RV, guests may use bio-degradable paper plates provided and are highly encouraged to input these wastes into our composter which is nearby. NO FISH OR FISH WASTES IN BINS OR COMPOSTER PLEASE!!!
Treat yourself to something different this vacation!
If you were ever thinking about moving towards a Tiny House lifestyle, this could be an easy way to test it out as a couple or individual.
Guest access; Lock box code provided, so guest self-checkin is available after hours.
Interaction with guests
Owners home is on the same 5 acre piece of property so we are close by if you need anything. We value your privacy and will leave you alone unless you should need something. Cottagers and marina patrons are very friendly and will greet you as they come and go.
Other things to note:
This is a quiet neighborhood with peace and good relations among neighbours paramount. We preserve that by requesting that you not have more than 1 or 2 quiet visitors at a time. No parties, outside music or loud voices. Shhhh, after 9 pm. Its not the right place if you want to entertain. It IS the right place if you want a peaceful escape. NOTE: there is NO WIFI, so either a) Relax & Unplug, Enjoy the time away unplugged, or b) Bring your own MIFI device, like tethering your smartphone. Yes, this is what I sometimes do as well. We have other properties and activites in West Michigan and the Gulf Coast of Florida, so don't forget to ask us about your next holiday experience. We hope you become another of our repeat guests for years to come. Kind regards, Frank
